All Cameos are HAND CARVED from BLACK LIP ABALONE SHELLS or MOTHER-OF-PEARL. They will vary from cameo to cameo in both carvings and coloration of shells as this is a natural substance.
All cameos are ovals.
These cameos are hand carved IN 3 DIMENSIONAL BAS-RELIEF from a single piece of shell, do not confuse with modern copies which are composites made from a top half machine carved attached to a bottom half with glue. These are one piece, came from Italy in 1954. We have added Silver bails for ease of use.
