A Japanese peeking bead, forerunner to the window beads later produced. These foil beads are quite rare as they gave way in later years to full window beads which, if you look throughout this catalog, you will find in many variations. Window beads are easier to find than this antique "peek-a-boo" bead, you will be hard pressed to find these as not many have survived. Tapered rectangles, measure 5X8mm, from West Germany circa 1949. Look closely at these beads, they are rare bicolors...there is a bit of honey color at one end and for the most part the bead is dominated by the red inclusions.
