Always a favorite, this is a beautiful elliptical turquoise in a unique setting. Note that there are square cut marcassites on both the top and bottom of the sterling mounting. Perfect shape too, the height is 45mm while the width is 30mm and the color is the perfect turquoise, the southwest variety. Bail is flexible, moves when the wearer moves. If at all possible we will always use the flex bail which is the right way to make a pendant. Fixed bails can break simply because they are stiff and do not move with the wearer, a fact overlooked by most modern makers who haven't had enough broken ones to figure that out yet and are always looking to do it the cheap way as opposed to the right way!! A beautiful round disc of black onyx with a center of closely set marcassites set in a sterling setting with a flexible bail. The back is the true setting which holds the pendant, it is a hand made wire form which we are showing in the photo. You can wear this on either side for a stunning effect either way. Incomparable

Mottled Turquoise is not seen too often nowadays, it was more common about 50 years ago. When turquoise is mined very often there is a quantity of lesser quality product that is not suitable for use because it is too grey in color. THAT is what the motttled consists of, the stone is dyed to enhance the turquoise parts which are in themselves too small to use alone. Although not terribly expensive, mottled turquoise is still beautiful and a conversation starter. We have at the start of this writing, only a few pieces. Obviously that too will diminish over time. It measures about 60mm with the bail and there is a wire form on the side opposite the marcassite that is not shown but will allow it to be worn on either side. Sort of like two style pendants for the price of one! Style number ss0104, $89 the piece.

The white lines you see are actually reflections of the overhead lights, not part of the stone. Related to Tiger Eye, Kalmanite is similar to a translucent tiger eye, same color configuration but not the defined stripes that tiger eye usually has. It is formed in volcanic pipes, those tunnels that form in volcanoes when they push their lava up from the center of the earth. It is crystaline in structure. I do not know exactly how it is mined, who would want to go into a volcano to retrieve it, but then again rubies, sapphires and some diamonds are also found there so there must be someone doing it!! This one measures 55x32mm, colorations may vary slightly from sample. Don't give it another thought. Last year we ran out of these and we were selling them then for $125 each wholesale. $69 the piece. All Sterling of course and accented in marcassite with flexible bails.
